Evan Smith Memorial Award and Foundation

On the morning of Sunday September 26, 2021, in Vancouver BC, Evan Smith, a longtime member of our Lorne Park Clarkson Hockey Association community, was fatally struck by an automobile that veered onto the sidewalk. Evan was 18 years old and was in his first year of University at University of British Colombia - UBC where he was studying Engineering.

Evan spent his entire hockey career with Lorne Park Clarkson, and was known around the rinks for his sportsmanship, dynamic smile and positive energy. Evan is dearly missed by all.

To recognize Evan’s many contributions to the game and to our community, the Evan Smith Memorial Award has been established and will be awarded annually to one Tyke Hockey player that reinforces Evan’s positive approach.

In addition, The Evan Smith Memorial Foundation has been established and fully funded through generous community contributions and will provide for the Award recipient to have their LPC Tyke Fees fully paid by the Foundation for the following hockey season. Additional donations for those that wish to contribute would be welcomed by emailing secretary@lpcha.ca or by coordinating through Deb and Adam Smith, Evan’s parents.

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Evan Smith Memorial Award recipient is Preston Treffry, a Tyke player whose smile and energy radiate throughout the rinks.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Evan and the Smith family, and we are honoured to work to recognize Evan’s many contributions to the Lorne Park Clarkson Hockey Association, our community and the game of hockey.
